India vs England, the 2nd semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, is set to be played on Thursday, 5 November, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Notably, it is the same venue where Abhishek truly announced himself with an outstanding century against England. Now, ahead of the big game, England’s all-rounder Sam Curran made a bold statement about Abhishek.
Sam Curran stated that Team England hopes Abhishek doesn't repeat the knock that he had once played against England when they last met at Wankhede.
“We Hope Abhishek Doesn’t Repeat That Knock”: Sam Curran Reacts to Abhishek Sharma Before T20 World Cup 2026 Clash
In a pre-match press conference, Sam Curran said, "At the moment, our main focus is Thursday night. We do hope Abhishek doesn't have his same knock again. We've very well planned for the game”
The last time India and England met at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Abhishek Sharma smashed 135 runs off just 54 balls, including 13 sixes, with a strike rate of 250. India won that match by a massive 150-run margin.
Now the two teams are set to meet once again, this time in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026. Notably, these two teams are playing the T20 World Cup semifinal against each other for the third time in a row. England defeated India in 2022, and India took revenge in 2024.
It also needs to be understood that Abhishek Sharma is not in great form. After scoring 3 ducks in the group stage, he scored a good half-century against Zimbabwe, but still he has scored only 80 runs in 6 matches with an average of 13.33 and a strike rate of 131.14.
India needs Abhishek’s performance on the big stage, as he is the one guy who can make the contest one-sided on his day. That is the only reason the management has backed him even after multiple failures.
Now all questions will be answered on Thursday, 5 March 2026, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
