In the 15th Match of the Pakistan Super League between the Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kings at the National Stadium Karachi, an iconic moment took place during the toss. Marnus Labuschagne, Babar Azam, and the PSL CEO came together to release a white dove to symbolise Pakistan’s commitment towards world peace. This event took place due to the intervention of Islamabad in mediating the US-Iran ceasefire.

“Pakistan takes pride in playing its part in promoting world peace. As a powerful symbol of that message, I would like to introduce the two captains, Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam, along with PSL CEO Salman Naseer. To mark the occasion tonight, we will also release a beautiful white dove as a symbol of peace,” said the former Pakistan women’s cricketer Urooj Mumtaz ahead of the match toss.

Late Sixes Seal Tense Chase as Peshawar Zalmi Edge Past Hyderabad Kings

Ahead of the match, Pakistan claimed a breakthrough on the global political front by advocating for Iran and seeking US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline and back a temporary ceasefire. Before the intervention of Pakistan, Trump gave a strict deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and if not, Iran would face terrible consequences. Islamabad’s last push for a de-escalation of the situation is what made the situation calm, at least for two weeks. To honour the efforts for the de-escalation of the tense situation between the US and Iran.

In the exciting clash between the two sides, Peshawar Zalmi came out on top with a victory by 4 wickets. In the 1st innings of the match, the Hyderabad Kings got off to a nightmare start with the bat as they lost 4 wickets for just 34 runs. Then the Sri Lankan batter, Kusal Perera and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship for the side with a good partnership. Kusal Perera scored a valuable knock of 58 off just 35 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. However, after the wicket of Labuschagne, things went downhill as they lost 6 wickets for just 29 runs and put up a total of 145 on the board.

Peshawar Zalmi had an easy run chase in hand as their skipper, Babar Azam, cherishes such run chases. Babar Azam scored 43 off 37 balls, including 6 fours at a strike rate of 116. The wickets kept on falling with some brilliant bowling performances by Saim Ayub and Mohammed Ali, who managed to keep their lengths tight and pick up crucial wickets. The pitch was a difficult one to bat on, and the match went into the last over despite the low score. Iftikhar Ahmed and Aamir Jamal scored 14 runs off the last over, and the pressure was eased off Aamir due to the two sixes struck by Iftikhar Ahmed. The Peshawar Zalmi was able to secure the chase by 4 wickets, and they currently stand in 4th place in the PSL.
