Since the commencement of IPL in 2008, one dream every bowler sees apart from playing for the national team is winning the Purple Cap. Purple Cap is the ultimate deciding factor of how well the bowler has performed throughout the season, and justifies his purchase.
The Purple Cap is awarded to the highest wicket-taking bowler in the tournament, including the league stage and playoffs. The Purple Cap keeps getting tossed around the country, changing heads as the Purple Cap wearer is given the cap during the match while he is fielding if they lead the wicket-taking charts. The final winner is the player who ends the tournament with the highest wickets at the commencement of the IPL.
Who leads the chart?
As of today, only 4 teams have played the 2026 season against each other, and Jacob Duffy (The RCB debutante), Shardul Thakur (Mumbai Homeboy) and Romario Shepherd (the RCB prodigy) lead the charts for the Cap.
Romario and Duffy played the inaugural match of IPL 2026 against SRH. Jacob made his debut in RCB and picked 2 wickets in the same over, dismissing the SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, restricting the Sunrisers to a score of 201. He picked 3 wickets in the match at an economy of 5.50. Romario, who played the last with RCB, picked 3 wickets at an economy of 13.50. Shardul Thakur, the MI bowler, took three wickets in MI’s match against KKR took 3 wickets with an economy of 9.75.
