As much of the cricketing world including the die hard inveterate Indian Cricket fan prepares to witness the one last hurdle in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, there seems to be unbridled excitement in the air. Understandably so- as what’s at stake is none other than the T20 World Cup final contest against co hosts India and their familiar opponents, New Zealand. But let’s pause to reflect on something that can no longer be avoided!
Is that the only thing that’s at stake?
What about the form, rather the current underwhelming form of someone known as the big hitter of the Indian cricket team, whose name is that of Abhishek Sharma?
As much interest and palpable excitement continues to grip the air over Ahmedabad, the much noted and well liked venue of the final stage of this elite T20 competition, it could be said, Indian cricket does have a thing or two to find answers for.
And the one particularly concerning query or subject of intrigue is whether- Abhishek Sharma can come good in that very stage of the competition where he is expected to shine and deliver crucial results for his team India.
Whether he can or will most certainly do that is something that rests in the lap of the future as at the moment it is completely unknown, but what’s known is that dropping Abhishek Sharma would not be the best sight in the world.
For starters, not for the left handed batter himself. Being dropped in a random contest is one thing but being dropped (which means not considered at all) for such a mega or opulent occasion as the final of a World Cup is like being extended the olive branch.
Yes, it is true that Abhishek Sharma has faltered in last of the two must win games of the tournament, one each against the West Indies and later, England.
But Abhishek is a world class performer who has previously got going to deliver big results for his Indian team.
He was in form against new Zeeland in the bi lateral contests (T20Is) held earlier this year towards the 2026 start. As a matter of fact, Abhishek Sharma scored 80 off 35 as his maiden T20I outing in this new year. The BlackCaps are an opposition he has previously and recently scored against, having had that element of familiarity where it comes to facing their bowling.
He can get going against spin and can back himself to go for the big shots against their medium pace.

If there’s anything lacking at this point, in Abhishek’s game, then it’s maybe the absence of the big scores as seen recently.
But while it’s a fact that can’t be disputed, what also cannot be disputed is the sheer ability that the Punjab batter possesses to deliver that key breakthrough of a knock that his country needs when the call beckons.
He was seen practicing hard at the nets and his captain was all attentive! Here’s to the fierce left hander and wishing him well.
