Ruturaj Gaikwad named in India A squad for Sri Lanka multi games
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named in the India A squad for the upcoming red-ball, multi-day matches in Sri Lanka. BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia officially announced the 15-member squad on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, named wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel as the captain for the tour.
The India A team will play two multi-day (four-day) matches in Sri Lanka. Both red-ball games will be played at the iconic international venue in Galle. By playing in these multi-day matches, Ruturaj Gaikwad is playing a double role on this tour. Before the four-day red-ball matches begin, Gaikwad is already in Sri Lanka to play in the 50-over white-ball Tri-Series (featuring India A, Afghanistan A, and Sri Lanka A) which kicks off on June 9, 2026.
He was added to that one-day squad just days ago as the vice-captain after Riyan Parag was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. By staying back for the longer format, the selectors are giving the Chennai Super Kings captain a massive opportunity to showcase his red-ball skills on slow, turning subcontinental tracks. The senior Indian team is scheduled to play a crucial two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August. The BCCI is using these India A multi-day matches in Galle to test which fringe players can handle the slow, spin-friendly turning pitches of the subcontinent.
