India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson delivered one of the most memorable performances in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, playing a pivotal role in India’s victorious campaign. The Rajasthan Royals captain finished the tournament with 321 runs in five matches, emerging as the Player of the Tournament for his consistent and match-winning contributions.
Samson’s performances stood out especially during the knockout stages, where he rose to the occasion under immense pressure. The right-hander smashed three consecutive half-centuries in must-win matches against the West Indies cricket team, England cricket team, and New Zealand cricket team, guiding India to crucial victories on their way to lifting the trophy.
His composed knock in the final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad proved to be one of the defining moments of the tournament, helping India secure the title in front of a packed crowd.
Sanju Samson credits Yuvraj Singh for crucial pre-tournament preparation
Following the historic campaign, Samson revealed that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh played a significant role in helping him prepare for the global event. According to Samson, the 2011 World Cup hero personally reached out to him before the tournament began.
Samson shared that Yuvraj had called him and invited him for a few training sessions before he left for the T20 World Cup. The veteran cricketer wanted Samson to spend time practicing with him and sharpening his skills ahead of the high-pressure tournament.
The sessions, Samson said, helped him gain confidence and clarity about his approach at the crease. Training with a player who has delivered in some of India’s biggest tournament victories gave the Kerala batter valuable insights into handling pressure on the world stage.
Samson’s stellar run in the tournament eventually proved how valuable that preparation was. With match-winning performances and remarkable consistency, he not only helped India clinch the title but also cemented his place as one of the team’s most dependable T20 batters.
