As per the latest reports, Cristiano Ronaldo has opted to leave Manchester United. The Red Devils had a disappointing last season with 16 wins and finished sixth on the Premier League table with only 58 points. They were 35 points behind the champions Manchester City. As a result, they missed out on qualifications for the next edition of the Champions League.

Ronaldo returned from Juventus last year and scored 24 goals in 39 games. However, he is said to be unhappy about not being a part of the Champions League, which is one of the key reasons for his exit. He has reportedly told Old Trafford that he should be allowed to leave the club if a suitable offer is presented before him.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner hopes to continue playing at the highest level in the next three-four years and is thinking to be a part of the teams that can win trophies. However, a Man Utd source has reckoned that they expect Ronaldo Ronaldo to be with them in the next season as well. It is evident that Portugal International’s contract with United will expire on June 30, 2023.

"Cristiano is not for sale. We want - and fully expect - him to be with us next season." said the source to Mirror Football.

United is said to have been working round the clock to bring talented players under the new manager Erik ten Hag. They are very close to signing the likes of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, and Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez.

The United squad will fly out for their pre-season tour on July 8, and Erik wants the bulk of the signings confirmed quickly so that he can have a settled squad at his disposal as soon as possible.
