Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Manchester United's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first season back at the club. In his first spell at Manchester, Ronaldo won the award on three occasions in 2003/04, 2006/07 and 2007/08. After an impressive return to Old Trafford, fans have voted CR7 to receive the trophy, which is presented by Adidas football, for a record-equalling fourth time.

The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award is given based on the votes of the club's supporters across the globe. Fans got a chance to vote for their favourite player from this season where Ronaldo ultimately received 60% of the total number of votes. Goalkeeper David De Gea finished second in the voting, with 29%, while Fred with 2%.

As Ronaldo was successful in winning the Manchester United's Player of the Year award, he missed out on the accolade that is voted for by his teammates. Manchester United's Players' Player of the Year award was won by David De Gea for the 2021-22 season. He has won the award for the fourth time in his career.

Recently, while talking to the Manchester United website, Ronaldo expressed his desire to win more trophies at the club. He said, “For me, the most important thing is to try and win the games and try to win some championship or some cup. But I believe Manchester will be where they belong. As I said before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.”

He also expressed his excitement about working with the new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag. He said, “I know he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that’s he an experienced coach. But we need to give him time you know, and things need to change the way he wants.

“I hope we have success of course because if you have success all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best. We are happy and excited not only as the players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year we’re going to win trophies.”
