Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a thumping victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the opening match of the resumption of IPL 2021 Phase 2. The MS Dhoni-led side posted a competitive total of 156 runs on the board, while Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals and fell short by 20 runs in the end.

However, CSK suffered two injury blows during the match as batsman Ambati Rayudu and pacer Deepak Chahar were seen in trouble during the match. Rayudu got hit on his left arm while he was ducking a bouncer and Chahar picked a cramp in his leg while bowling his final over. MS Dhoni informed in the post-match presentation that Rayudu hasn’t broken his arm and has time to recover. Now, CSK coach Stephen Fleming has given big update on the injury of both the players.

Rayudu’s X-Ray was clear: Fleming

CSK coach has informed that Rayudu’s X-Ray was clear. “Rayudu’s X-Ray was clear, it was just a bad bruise at that stage and he lost little bit of grip. We feared that it might be broken but there is good news,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference.

Fleming also provided an important update on Deepak Chahar, who walked off the field after the 18th over in which he experienced pain in his leg while bowling. “Deepak Chahar had a cramp, we will check that, fingers crossed, they both will come through reasonably okay,” Fleming said. It remains to be seen whether the players will be fully fit before there next match against RCB on September 24.

It was very special: Fleming on Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad saved CSK when they were struggling at 24/4 inside the power-play with Rayudu also injured. The talented youngster played an astonishing knock to help CSK post 156 runs and his knock left everybody in awe. CSK coach Stephen Fleming too lauded the youngster for his brilliant show.

“Yeah, it was very special. We have had tabs on him since some time. Even last time we were here, we rushed him back given the shape he was in from COVID-19 because that’s how much regard and respect we have for his ability,” Fleming said.  He added that Gaikwad absorbed the pressure and it was because of him that CSK could create pressure on MI.
