After winning the toss, KKR opted to bat first and posted a decent total of 171/6 with the help of quickfire knocks from Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana. Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik also played a brilliant cameo in the end. Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were fantastic with the ball for CSK in the first innings with bowling figures of 2/20 and 1/21 respectively.
While chasing, CSK had a good opening partnership from Gaikwad – Faf du Plessis. But in the last 4 overs, when CSK needed 40 more to win they started to lose wickets like a pack of cards and were reduced to 146/6 after the end of 18 overs. When it looked like KKR would win the game comfortably, Ravindra Jadeja smashed 20 runs off the last 4 balls of 19th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna and gave a spectacular twist to the game. CSK ultimately managed to clinch the thriller on the last ball of the 2oth over. With this victory, CSK once again jumped to the top of IPL 2021 points table.
