Indian boxer Shiva Thapa failed to repeat a good performance in the Round of 16 match against the reigning World Championship bronze medalist Reece Lynch as the Scottish boxer sealed the quarter-final berth in the Men's 63.5 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

The 28-year-old Shiva Thapa started the match confidently but the height and arm reach of Lynch got the better of the Indian boxer. Reece Lynch won the Men's Light Welterweight category match and reached the quarter-final stage.

Shiva Thapa looked confident at the start of the fight as he forced the Scottish boxer on the ground but in the last two rounds, Reece Lynch made a sensational comeback and connected some punches on his opponent to win the Round of 16 bout.

Earlier, Reece Lynch defeated Timon Aaree of Kiribati in just 2:26 on the clock to kick off his CWG 2022 campaign with a statement win. Many people have started comparing Lynch with undisputed world champion Josh Taylor, who won Commonwealth Games gold in 2014.

On the other hand, Indian boxer Shiva Thapa started his Birmingham Games 2022 campaign by beating Pakistan's Suleman Baloch in the first round of men's 63.5 kg category boxing event.
