Australian women's cricket team have defeated Team India in the opening match of the Women's T20 event in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Australia won the match by three wickets and handed India their first defeat of the tournament.

Batting first, Team India put up a target of 155 runs on the board which was chased easily by Australia in 19 overs. Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner scored an unbeaten half-century and bowled an economical spell to help her team win the match.

Indian batters failed to built a convincing partnership against Australia but a powerful knock from Shafali Verma, who went two runs short of her CWG fifty, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored quickfire 52 off 34 balls, helped Team India to reach a total of 154 runs with a loss of 8 wickets.

Australia all-rounder Jess Jonassen picked four wickets in her 4-over spell by giving just 22 runs and helped her team restrict the Indian side on an average score. While chasing the target, Australian women's team lost four early wickets in the starting five overs as Indian bowler Renuka Singh displayed a tremendous bowling to take all the starting four wickets.

However, Team India couldn't hold on to their performance as Ashleigh Gardner (52*) and Grace Harris (37) contributed a 51-run partnership to help Australia beat India by three wickets.
