The India women’s hockey team received a massive blow after midfielder Navjot Kaur tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Saturday. Kaur’s Commonwealth Games campaign came to an abrupt end and she is set to fly back home.

The 27-year-old has been isolation from last two days and wasn’t a part of the team in their win against Ghana. Notably, Sonika is set to replace Kaur in the 18-member squad.

“She has been kept in isolation. Her CT value is not infectious and she has no symptoms. She stested positive in her first test but in the second test her CT value improved and she can’t infect others. She has been cleared to fly back to India by the organisers,” a source close to the team informed PTI.

India registered 5-0 win over Ghana in their Group match of the CWG opener. India dominated all four quarters of the game and kept challenging Ghana's defence throughout the game.

Gurjit Kaur scored the first goal for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team in the 2nd minute as Neha added another in the 30th to take India on a 2-0 lead. After this, Team India scored two quick goals in the 36th minute by Sangita Kumari and soon Gurjit Kaur scored her second goal in the 39th minute to give India 4-0 lead.
