Indian women's hockey team have begun their Commonwealth Games 2022 Group A campaign with a dominating 5-0 win against Ghana on Friday. India dominated all four quarters of the game and kept challenging Ghana's defence throughout the game.

Gurjit Kaur scored the first goal for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team in the 2nd minute as Neha added another in the 30th to take India on a 2-0 lead. After this, Team India scored two quick goals in the 36th minute by Sangita Kumari and soon Gurjit Kaur scored her second goal in the 39th minute to give India 4-0 lead.

Team India then scored the fifth goal with five minutes remaining in the game as Salima Tete scored the last goal of the match. In the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, the Indian Women's Hockey team finished fourth, however, the current squad are eyeing a medal this time.

Ahead of their opening fixture against Ghana, Team India skipper Savita said, "We are confident about our chances to clinch a Medal and a resounding win against Ghana will provide the perfect start to our 2022 Commonwealth Games campaign."
