India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the semifinal of the Women’s Singles event at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games as she beat Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh in the Quarterfinals. Sindhu came back from a game down to win the match 19-21, 21-14, 21-18. The double Olympic medallist looked in trouble at moments, but she finished the game well to advance to the next round. Notably, Sindhu had also defeated Jin Wei in the final of the Mixed Team event.

She will next face Yeo Jia Min of Singapore in the semifinal. The India shuttler will be chuffed to bits after seeing her opponent for the semis as Sindhu defeated the Singaporean in the semifinal of the Mixed Team event.

Coming to the game against Jin Wei Goh, it was not an easy task for Sindhu as the Malaysian looked threatening on many occasions. After clinching the first game 21-19, Jin Wei was pumped up and was attacking in the second game as well. However, Sindhu lifted her game to take it 21-14 and level the score.

The third game was also a close-fought contest with Jin Wei taking an early lead. Even at half-time, Sindhu only had a lead of 11-10. But the Indian shuttler then built on the one-point lead and raced to 15 points really quickly. Sindhu then further extended her lead as she reached to 18 points. But, the Malaysian once again threatened as she collected back-to-back points to bring the deficit down to two points.

Nonetheless, Sindhu was alert enough to not let slip the game out of her grasp as she scored an easy game point to take Game 3 21-18, and win the match 2-1.
