India had a mixed day at the Commonwealth Games as far as the sport of squash is concerned. While women squash player Joshna Chinappa's journey came to end in the 2022 edition of the event after she faced a comprehensive defeat, men's star player Saurav Ghosal secured a win to reach the semifinals and reach a step closer to a medal.

Ghosal defeated Scotland's Greg Lobban 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3 to register a superb win in the quarterfinals on Monday. While Ghosal won the first game comfortably, Lobban came back to take the second game 8-11. However, Ghosal did not give any further opportunity to Lobban in the match as he took the next two games 11-7 and 11-8, respectively. The result means Ghosal will now meet Paul Coll of New Zealand in the semifinals. Coll had defeated Adrian Waller of England in his quarterfinal encounter.

Earlier, India's Joshna Chinappa bowed out of the women's singles squash event after losing to Hollie Naughton in straight games. The Canadian player defeated Chinappa 11-9, 11-5, 15-13 to end her chances of a medal in the event. While Chinappa was completely outplayed in the first two games, she did put up a fight in the third game and even took a two-point lead at one stage with the score 7-5 in India's favour, however, Naughton managed to make a comeback and secure a place in the semis.

Overall, India have won six medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far with all of them coming in the sport of weightlifting.
