India’s Suchika Tariyal defeated South Africa’s Donne Breytenbach in the Women’s 57kg Repechage round. She won by Ippon to keep herself in contention for a medal. Tariyal lost to Canada’s Christa Deguchi in the Quarterfinal to find herself competing in the Repechage round. Earlier, in the day, the Indian Judo player defeated Rita Kabinda of Zambia to progress to the QFs.
But it was a stiff challenge for Tariyal in the last eight round as she was defeated in less than a minute by Deguchi. Nonetheless, the 31-year-old still had her medal hopes alive as she faced Christianne Legentil of Mauritius in the Bronze medal match later in the day.
