All the wrestlers and fans were asked to evacuate the wrestling venue on Friday after an expected security breach in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The incident took place when a speaker fell from the ceiling right after India's Deepak Punia had won his opening bout in men's 86kg category.

The bouts are slated to resume at 12.45pm local time, which is 5.15pm IST as reported by the United World Wrestling (UWW). The UWW took to its official Twitter handle and informed, "We're taking a short pause for a safety check and will resume action once we receive the go-ahead."

"Wrestling will resume in one hour. We'll restart at 12:15 (local time ???????). We apologize, wrestling fans," UWW added.

Later, the UWW updated, "UPDATE FROM ENGLAND: Wrestling will resume at 12:45 (local time ???????)."

The embarrassing incident took place on the opening day of the wrestling event at CWG 2022 after just five bouts were completed.

Meanwhile, Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia defeated Lowe Bingham of Nauru in his campaign opener. The star Indian wrestler entered the quarterfinal of the men's 65 kg category with a 5-0 win and will now face Jean Guyliane Joris Bandou of Mauritius later today.
