Chennai Super Kings have received a major blow after fast bowler Deepak Chahar suffered another injury while undergoing rehabilitation at NCA. Chahar has been sidelined for at least four months due to a back injury that he suffered recently. According to the reports, the results of the scan suggest that Chahar will miss the entire IPL and could also be out of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The 29-year-old was recovering from a quadriceps tear that he suffered during the West Indies’ tour of India. There were videos of him getting better and bowling in the nets at the NCA but the fresh injury will keep the Rajasthan-born out for a much longer time. The Chennai Super Kings had bought Chahar at a massive price of INR 14 Crore but will miss him this season.

Yellow Army’s first triumph

The four-time champions had a horrendous start to the season as they lost four-straight games. But against the Royal Challenger Bangalore, the Yellow Army registered their first victory of the season. CSK posted a massive score of 216, thanks to high-quality knocks by Robin Uthappa who scored 88 with Shivam Dube who scored 95. The duo also managed to stitch up the highest partnership of this season as they scored 165 runs batting together.

In the bowling department, Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana took four wickets while conceding 33 runs in his spell. Other bowlers who stepped up were captain Ravindra Jadeja, Mukesh Choudhary and Dwayne Bravo. After the match, Jadeja was elated by the team’s performance as they won their first match.

“We'll try and continue the momentum”

After the win Jadeja said, “First of all, this is the first victory as a captain ever. I would like to dedicate to my wife and also the team because first victory is always special. Previous four games, we couldn't cross the line. But as a team, we came good. As a batting unit, everybody did a good job. Robbie and Shivam batted brilliantly. The bowlers contributed with the ball as well. Our management don't put pressure on me, they are relaxed, they always come to me and motivate. As a captain, I am still picking brains of the senior players.”

Chennai Super Kings are currently placed at ninth place in the 10-team table after registering their first win of the season.
