Indian archers Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das have urged the East Delhi Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir, a former India cricketer, not to convert the archery ground at the Yamuna Sports Complex into a cricket ground. Notably, Gambhir had shared a video of the ground on his social media which is undergoing some upgradation work.

Following his social media post, several fans and archery players including Kumari and Das as well as Abhishek Verma asked the cricket World Cup winning player not to convert the facility into a cricket ground. It should be noted that the DDA's Yamuna Sports Complex was the venue of the archery event at the Commonwealth Games 2010 and is currently used to host tournaments and train archers from across the country.

However, taking note of the archers' tweets, Gambhir has now offered a clarification. In a separate tweet, Gambhir said that the ground is being upgraded to ensure that it can be used for multiple sports.

"To set the record straight. Yamuna Sports Ground has not been converted but only upgraded. Archery & other sports will continue like before. Being a sportsman myself, will never let anything hamper the growth of any sportsman,!" he tweeted.

Earlier, the Member of Parliament, Gambhir, had written a letter to DDA requesting to change the name of the ground and name it after former India Test captain and the highest wicket taker of the team Anil Kumble.
