Team India are currently preparing for their T20 World Cup campaign set to be played in Australia later this year and would have kept one eye on the 50 Overs World Cup scheduled to be played in India next year. However, the fact remains that die-hard fans of India have still not gotten over the Men in Blue's heartbreaking defeat in the 2019 ODI World Cup. The T20 World Cup defeat last year hasn't made it easy to digest either.

The ODI World Cup defeat haunts many Indian fans more so because the game was within India's reach after they had restricted New Zealand to 239/8. Still, the Indian team failed to cross the line as their top order failed and by the time Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni came and built a partnership, they had left themselves a little too much to do.

Former India cricketer turned commentator Parthiv Patel has now questioned the team's tactics from that match and suggested that MS Dhoni should have been sent once India lost early wickets. “In the 2019 World Cup semi-final, we sent Dinesh Karthik to bat at five and MS Dhoni at seven. I don’t know if MS Dhoni was going to win you the game from the dressing room”, said Parthiv during a discussion on Cricbuzz.

Parthiv briefly talked about the 2017 Champions Trophy final defeat to Pakistan before discussing the T20 World Cup heartbreak last year.

“When you look at the Champions Trophy final (2017), India got it wrong tactically by deciding to bowl first on that wicket. Or in the 2019 World Cup, we didn’t get our team right as we couldn’t find a No.4 batter for two years,” he said.

“In the last T20 World Cup, we left out Yuzvendra Chahal, who is our No.1 spinner and picked players who had done well just in the recent past. We didn’t win those ICC trophies because we were tactically not right," the southpaw added.

Notably, India has not won an ICC trophy since 2013 and Rohit Sharma & Co would be hoping to end the drought by lifting the T20 World Cup this year.
