The 2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu is not having the best of her season as she was again forced to retire from her first-round match at the Rothesay Open with an injury. Top-seeded player sought a medical timeout in the early stages of her clash with Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic after suffering an injury.

Since her stunning US Open triumph in September last year, Emma Raducanu has been struggling with a series of injuries and was forced out of the match for the third time in a season. In the latest development, Emma has confirmed that she will not compete in the Birmingham Classic after suffering a side strain but hopes to attain the required fitness to play at Wimbledon, which starts on 27 June.

While speaking to the LTA, Emma Raducanu stated, “It was disappointing to go out this week with a side injury and unfortunately, I will no longer be available for Birmingham. But, I am hoping to get fit and enjoy the rest of the court season.”

Earlier, while talking to the media Emma Raducanu claimed that she felt as if she had pulled something, ‘may around my rib or something.’ “I think I pulled something. I am not sure what exactly happened. I just came off the court. It’s on the side of my body. It feels like I don’t know, maybe around my rib or something. It’s just a shame, and I am extremely disappointed and sad for everyone who supported me throughout. It is really bad luck,” she said.

However, she further stated that Emma Raducanu is doing everything possible to regain her fitness and showed confidence in her comeback. Post-second round exit at the recently-concluded French Open, Emma Raducanu has managed to secure the 11th spot in the WTA rankings. She won her opening match of the tournament against Linda Noskova but lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round despite winning the first set comfortably.
