After the hammering in the first ODI, Jos Buttler’s England will be under the pump when they take the field on Thursday for the second ODI. England were completely blown away by the pace of Jasprit Bumrah who accounted for six English batters. Mohammed Shami was also lethal with his upright-seam deliveries. In batting as well, India easily chased down the target and won the match by ten wickets. It will be interesting to see how England make a comeback.

Pitch Report

The Lord’s pitch is generally on the flatter side and is a batting paradise. However, as has been the case in the four white-ball games, the ball has swung up front which can be an issue for the batters. Pacers will have a role to play throughout the match.

Team Analysis

India played like a champion team as they first bundled out England for a mere 110 and then chased the target pretty easily. Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the new ball as he removed four English batters in his first three overs. He got great support from Mohammed Shami who took three wickets in the match.

When it came to batting, captain Rohit Sharma put his hands up and continued his great run in England and notched up his 45th ODI half-century. Shikhar Dhawan, who was making a comeback into the side, played second fiddle and kept the scoreboard ticking. There were no issues to address for India and they are likely to field the same eleven considering Virat Kohli is yet to recover from a groin injury.

England were completely blown away and had no time to recover with Bumrah and Shami spitting venom from both ends. Three of the four top-order English batters failed to open their account. Captain Jos Buttler tried hard to bail his team out of trouble but fell too alone. Nonetheless, England would take this as a wake-up call and will look to make a comeback in the second ODI. There are not many changes expected considering England played their best eleven. The only major worry for England is Jason Roy’s form. The opening batter has scored 30 runs in four innings (3 T20Is and 1 ODI). Philip Salt may replace Roy in the second ODI.

Philip Salt, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (C & wk), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Reece Topley, Craig Overton, Brydon Carse

Match Prediction

The way India dominated England in the first ODI, the Rohit Sharma-led team will be brimming with confidence and will be favorites in the second ODI as well.
