The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) along with the Cricket West Indies (CWI) have confirmed England's tour of West Indies for five T20Is and three Test matches in 2022. The series is set to be England's first-ever five-match T20I bilateral arrangement against the Caribbean. Moreover, the Test matches are set to be part of the ICC World Test Championship.
It is being known that all five T20I matches will be staged in Barbados during a nine-day period from January 22 to 30, 2022. While England are currently ranked number 1 side in the world in the shortest format, West Indies are known to be a strong unit in this form of the game with several cricket experts and pundits even backing them to do well in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.
The two teams were in fact the finalists of the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. Post the conclusion of the series against the Three Lions, West Indies will tour India.
"Following West Indies’ white-ball tour of India in February 2022, the West Indies will welcome England back to the region for a three-match Test series to compete for the newly created Richards-Botham Trophy. This new trophy honours two legends of cricket, Lord Ian Botham and Sir Vivian Richards, whose friendship and on-field heroics became synonymous with some of their respective teams greatest Test match moments," ECB said in an official statement.
"We are delighted to be able to confirm the venues for this extended West Indies vs England T20I and Test Series. The history and rivalry between the two teams creates great anticipation for fans here in the Caribbean and around the world. These fixtures are part of a bumper year of international home cricket running from January to August in the Caribbean," CEO of CWI said.
