Prediction of the Game

With the frenzy of IPL coming to an end, it is time for the commencement of England's international season. The Three Lions will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series starting on June 2. The first Test is all set to be staged at the iconic Lord's Stadium in London with the following matches scheduled at Trent Bridge and Headingley.

The fixtures are all part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 which is currently being led by Australia. England are at the bottom of the points tally as of now but would hope that with a new captain in Ben Stokes there are better results ahead for them in this cycle of the WTC.

Ahead of the opening fixture of the series, here is a stat-based prediction of which way things could go.

1. Toss Prediction

In the last five Test matches, England have won 3 won tosses. On the other hand, New Zealand have won 2 out of their last 5 tosses. While it would be a fresh start, going by this data set, England appear favourites to win the toss.

2. Win Probability

In their last five Test matches, New Zealand have managed to win two. While this record itself may seem not upto the mark for a team that sets high standards for themselves and are the defending World Test champions, England, their opponent, haven't been able to clinch a single game in their last five fixtures. Despite a change in captain and coaching staff, one would have to pick New Zealand as the favourites.

3. Team of the Test Match

The team of the match is New Zealand who have a better record heading into this Test series going by the current form.

4. Average scores at this venue

Average first innings score at the Lord's in Test matches is 313. The average second innings score is 298. In third innings the average score dips to 257 and the average fourth innings score here is 154. The highest total record in a Test match at this venue is 729/6 by Australia against the host country while the lowest total here is 38 by Ireland against England.
