Joe Root-led England are all set kick off their international season by hosting Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in a two-match Test series, ahead of the World Test Championship between the Kiwis and India starting June 18. England’s last Test outing was an away series against India, which the visitors lost 1-3 to Virat Kohli and company earlier this year.

On the other hand, New Zealand haven’t played much of Test cricket in the recent few months as their last appearance was against Pakistan at home, which saw them qualifying for the WTC final. Considering the backdrop, the two-match Test series will give the Black Caps the much needed practice of red-ball cricket in English conditions, after a long break from Test cricket.
