The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is underway, and players from around the globe are going under the hammer. A total of 600 players were awaiting their new franchises at the start of Day 1; Ninety-seven of which went under the hammer. While some got their new franchises, some went back to their old ones. A few players went unsold as well. The second day of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction kickstarted with some big names going under the hammer, some of which surprisingly failed to find a buyer. But they will hope to get one in the accelerated phase.

Overall, the mega auction is going at some quick pace and by the end of Day 2, the fate of all 600 players would be decided. While the Indian T20 League for Men’s is entering into its 15th edition this year, Women’s IPL is still a talking point. For a start, the Women’s T20 Challenge will see its second edition being played this year, but a full-fledged Women’s IPL is awaited. Talking about the same, England women’s team member Kate Cross has shared a Tweet hoping for a similar mega auction for Women cricketers as well. “Can’t wait for the day there is a women’s one of these! #IPLAuction,” wrote Cross alongside a picture of the IPL 2022 Auction.

Women’s IPL to start soon: Jay Shah

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has ensured that a full-fledged Women’s IPL is not that far as the board is looking to start it as early as next year. “I want to assure you that BCCI is not only sincere but is taking all necessary steps to start a full-fledged women’s league similar to the IPL soon,” Shah had told news agency Reuters in an email.

“The huge interest among fans and players towards the women’s T20 Challenge is an encouraging sign and we are all committed to making it happen,” he had added.

The second edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge will take place during the playoff stage of the Men’s IPL in May.
