Veteran singer Asha Bhosle who is considered as one of the greatest singers has passed away at the age of 92. Asha Bhosle was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital on Saturday after she experienced cardiac and respiratory issues. As per reports, the singer had not been keeping well for the last few months and was brought to the hospital in a critical state. She was admitted to the ICU on Saturday night after cardiac related issues. Speaking to the media, her son Anand said that the singer had passed away today and the last rites will be conducted tomorrow.

Asha Bhosle began singing professionally at the age of just nine. Her first film song was recorded in 1943 and by the 1950s, she had made a legacy for herself in Bollywood. Over the next three decades, she was among the most sought-after performers by most producers and composers.

At the age of 16, Asha Bhosle got married to Ganpatrao Bhosle who was her personal secretary. However, Asha broke off the marriage when her in-laws reportedly mistreated her. They divorced in 1960 and had three kids together.

In 1980, she married composer Rahul Dev Barman, Asha’s granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, is a singer and was the veteran singer’s constant companion in her last few years.

Asha Bhosle is one of the legendary names in our country and her career spanned eight decades in which she recorded songs in various languages. She was honoured with plenty of prestigious awards such as Padma Vibhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke Award. She was also a seven-time winner of the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award and a two-time winner of the National Film Award- for Dil Cheez Kya Hai from Umrao Jaan and Mera Kuch Saamaan. With the passing away of Asha Bhosle it is truly the end of an era of greatness.
