All the players of the Sri Lankan squad have tested negative for Covid-19 in the latest test. As a result, all the Sri Lankan players will be allowed to resume training from Monday onwards. Earlier, the series had to be rescheduled after Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower and data analyst G T Niroshan tested positive for the virus on their return from the UK tour.

Players will start with gym sessions today: SLC medical committee head

Prof. Arjuna de Silva, the SLC medical committee head, confirmed the development.

“All of them (Sri Lankan players) tested negative today and we have given permission them to train. They will start will with Gym sessions today and will be allowed to train in the ground tomorrow” De Silva said.

The Men in Blue will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the neighbouring country. There will be new individuals in the leadership role for both Sri Lanka and India. All-rounder Dasun Shanaka has replaced wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera as Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20I captain while veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan will lead the young Indian team in Virat Kohli’s absence.

The three ODI matches will now be held on July 18, 20 and 23 at the Premadasa Stadium followed by the T20Is, starting on July 25. The last two T20Is are set to be played on July 27 and 29 at the same venue.
