The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday announced that it will conduct a national tournament from March 20 to April 4 to select the Indian team for its maiden appearance in the FIFA E Nations Series. This will be the first time in history that the AIFF will conduct trials to select India’s top FIFA players and form a team.

The tournament will be held between March 20 to April 4. Registrations for the tournament are open from March 1 to March 10. A total of 16 best players from India will compete against each other. The platform of choice will reportedly be Playstation 5 and Playstation 4. From these players, two finalists will be selected from the tournament who will represent the nation on the world stage. The rankings determined in the West Asia region event of the FIFA Global Series Ranking will be used to seed players and the top 16 players from there will play it out in order to fill 2 spots to represent India. The FIFA E Nation Sports 21 will feature a multi phased stage with online qualifiers being held prior to the final event.

The FIFA E- Nation Series is the world body’s flagship tournament for the member associations where gamers from several countries fight it out to determine the best in the business. India has never taken part in this tournament before. India will be taking part from the Middle East and Africa server for the initial stages of the tournament. AIFF Secretary, Kushal Das was quoted as saying, "Gaming has always been a great engagement tool for football fans across the world. Owing to the current pandemic situation the interest in eSports has increased manifold globally”.
