Denmark are all set to take the field against Belgium on Thursday in the group stage of the UEFA Euro 2020. Denmark head into this contest on the back of a 1-0 loss to Finland on Saturday. A second-half goal from Union Berlin striker Joe Pohjanpalo proved enough for Finland to seal the game in their favour.
On the other hand, Belgium defeated Russia 3-0 on Sunday with a brace from Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku and a goal from Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier doing the job for the team. It is in this context that this match will become all the more important.
Denmark will be without Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen who is recovering after a shocking collapse on the field in the first game. Other than that there are no such injury or availability concerns from the team.
Belgium will definitely be without Timothy Castagne, who suffered a tournament-ending injury in their opening game against Russia. However, in a big boost, Kevin de Bryune is back fit and should be available for selection for this match but remains a doubtful starter.
Despite it being such a big event, football is not the main priority for Denmark. Their main focus has shifted towards the health and wellbeing of their star player Chirstian Eriksen. On the other hand, Inter Milan have been in fine form with Romelu Lukaku playing some of the finest football of his life. They should be able to edge Denmark in this game who were not mentally there in the game after the play resumed post the Eriksen drama.
