Preview:

Belgium and Portugal are both among the favourites to win Euro 2020. However, one of these teams will be eliminated from the competition on Sunday as both lock horns in a blockbuster encounter in the last-16 stage of Euro 2020.  The Red Devils cruised into the knockouts by winning all three of their Group B games to top the group while Portugal qualified from Group F after finishing third behind France and Germany.

Team News:

Belgium

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard have all returned to full fitness and will be raring to go up against Portugal.

Portugal

Danilo Pereira is a doubt for this game as he suffered a blow to his face against France, but the midfielder is expected to overcome the issue. Bruno Fernandes could again be named on the bench as the team performed well in his absence against world champions.

Key Players

Analysis:

Roberto Martinez’s Belgium are now unbeaten in their last 12 matches and will be confident of eliminating the defending champions. Consequently, they are ranked No. 1 in the FIFA world rankings and will be determined to get past Portugal. Both these teams have no shortage of attacking options with a power-packed forward line consisting of some of world’s best attackers.

In their last game, Portugal delivered a gutsy performance as they held world champions France to a 2-2 draw. Portugal midfield, led by Renato Sanches and Moutinho, delivered a world-class performance and dominated the midfield against Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kanté. Moreover, they will have to deliver a similar, if not better performance against Tielemans, De Bruyne  and Witsel.

Notably, Belgium will play the same 3-4-3 system they have been using for the past five years under Roberto Martínez. De Bruyne and Eden Hazard will be the key players for Belgium as the duo will be expected to create goal-scoring chances for in-form Romelu Lukaku. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Jota will carry the goalscoring threat for Portugal. As a result, these players can also be good captain and vice-captain choices for this match.
