Over 240,000 people have signed a petition to force UEFA to repeat the round of 16 matches between France and Switzerland. France were eliminated from the 2020 European Championship by the Swiss as the World champions crashed out after a penalty shootout defeat. Kylian Mbappe was the man who missed the decisive spot-kick.

Many football fans are unhappy that Mbappe wasn’t allowed to re-take his penalty. Goalkeepers need to keep at least one foot on the goal-line when facing a penalty. The French fans have complained that Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer didn't follow the rule during Kylian Mbappe's spot-kick, which was saved by the Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper to seal Switzerland's qualification to the quarter-finals of EURO 2020.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, almost a quarter of a million people have signed the petition for the game to be replayed as they believe none of Sommer’s legs was on the line at the moment Mbappé took his penalty shot even though, according to the rules, one of the goalkeeper’s legs should have been on the line.

However, UEFA are confident that the referee and the VAR officials made the correct decision. There has been no official statement from UEFA regarding the same and the possibility of a replay of the match looks bleak.
