India clinched a perfect clean sweep against West Indies after defeating visitors in the 3rd T20I by 17-runs on Sunday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rohit Sharma-led side outplayed West Indies in both the formats (ODI & T20I), as hosts defeated visitors in each and every game in the series.

West Indies bowlers made a significant mark in the 3rd T20I by posting a tough challenge to Indian batters, but it was all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer (35 off 19) and Suryakumar Yadav (65 off 31) who played vital innings when the team suffered an early batting collapse. Iyer's knock complemented Suryakumar Yadav's blistering fifty run-knock. However, Iyer's knock was not the only talking point from the game, as the all-rounder also made the life of the West Indies batter tough with the bowl. While filling in for Deepak Chahar, Iyer clinched two crucial wickets in the game and provided a much-needed breakthrough in the game. He dismissed West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard in the 9th over of the match, followed by another dismissal of all-rounder Jason Holder in the 11th over of the game. In 11 balls, Venkatesh Iyer took 2 of the most crucial wickets reducing the West Indies from 82-3 to 87-5.

In a chat with debutant Avesh Khan, Iyer expressed his desire to keep performing well and admitted that he understands his role in the team and is trying his best to do well accordingly. While speaking to Khan, Iyer said, "I am trying to do well in every capacity. I have been bowling in nets and if skipper shows trust in me in crucial positions I would try to perform as per the expectations."

Iyer also confessed that it's always good for a skipper to have bowling options available in a high-stake contest and he would like to do the same in the team. Notably, Iyer played vital innings in previous games as well but didn't get a chance to bowl. However, Iyer impressed everyone with his bowling in the 3rd T20I.

Meanwhile, Avesh Khan received his maiden T20I cap from veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar. As the debutant turned out to be costly in his first over after conceding a couple of boundaries, he came back stronger in the contest and bowled decent overs. Avesh Khan finished the game with no wickets and had an economy of 10.50 after bowling 4 overs of his quota.
