On June 26 (Sunday), India featured in the first fixture of the 2-match T20I series against Ireland at Castle Avenue, Dublin. It also marked the comeback of Suryakumar Yadav to the cricket field, after he injured himself in the Indian Premier League 2022 fixture against Gujarat Titans on 6 May.

Batting first, Ireland posted 108 in 12 overs, with the stunning 33 balls 64* from Harry Tector. In reply, India started well with Ishan Kishan delivering boundaries in a consistent manner. However, after hitting a four and a six on the first two balls of Craig Young’s over, he was bowled in the subsequent ball for a well-made 26 off 11 balls.

In the next ball, Yadav came to the crease. Young tried to use the new ball in his favour and pitched the good-length ball, which nipped in off the surface and caught the batter off-guard, and was adjudged LBW. Although Yadav took a review after he was given out, the ball was going on to hit the top of the middle and off stump. Ahead of this dismissal, the broadcast had shown a fan with the poster which read, ‘From Mumbai to Dublin Just To Watch Surya Playing’.

In this pursuit, the 31-year-old became the third Indian player to be out on a golden duck against Ireland after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
