The Austrian GP 2021 qualifying on Saturday produced some breathtaking stuff at Red Bull Ring as Max Verstappen took the pole position in front of his fans. However, the star of the day was McLaren's Lando Norris who drove his heart out to finish an impressive P2 ahead of Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Mercedes' duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, much to everyone's surprise.

The 21-year-old registered a lap time of 1:03:768 in Q3 and make agonizingly close to take pole, finishing only 0.048 seconds behind Max. However, it was still an incredible result for Lando and McLaren and they were undoubtedly thrilled after the session.

Lando Norris is in some form - on and off the track

After securing a brilliant P2 on Saturday, Lando Norris absolutely aced it in the post-qualifying interview. The 21-year-old said that he felt epic terming his Q3 lap as one of the best he has ever done. While he admitted that he was a bit gutted to miss out on pole, Norris stated that they are still in a great position going into Sunday's race.

With the fans at Red Bull Ring showing support for Dutch driver Max Verstappen in orange, Norris hilariously claimed that it was for McLaren (as they have car with orange livery) instead. Reflecting on the same, he said, "The fans are cool here. Everyone in orange, supporting McLaren, not Max. It's cool to have them back."

Notably, Norris will hope to add another podium finish to his tally this season after already claiming two top 3 finishes at Imola and Monaco respectively. The 21-year-old will also want to keep his 100% record of a top 10 finish this season, with him being the only driver on the grid to score points in all races so far.
