Social media is a double-edged sword. While it has reduced the distance between people and helped to connect, it has also raised other kinds of issues - one of which is online trolls. Behind computer screens and mobile phones around the world, there are netizens who engage in trolling celebrities and even the common folk for the most bizarre reasons.

Another such incident happened after Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore faced a season-ending four-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021 Eliminator on Monday. While fans were upset especially with all-rounder Daniel Christian's performance, some of them resorted to social media abuses, leaving derogatory remarks not only on the profile of the Australian cricketer but stooping to a new low and abusing his partner.

However, a handful of fans could not find the right profile and instead trolled another verified account by the name of Daniel Christen who happens to be a theatre actor. There were foul-worded comments on his profile while others pointed out that he was the wrong guy.

Here is what happened:

Meanwhile, all-rounder Christian had a forgettable day on the cricket field against Kolkata in Sharjah. While he scored just nine runs in the first innings, he conceded 22 runs in his first over while bowling which changed the momentum of the match in favour of Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 38-year-old admitted that he had a bad day on the field but urged the netizens to leave his partner out of this.

"I didn’t have a great game tonight, but that’s sport. However, please leave her out of it," Christian said on his Instagram story.

Meanwhile, a defeat for Bangalore meant that the match turned out to be the last one for Kohli as the leader of the contingent. He put out a heartfelt note on social media where he not only thanked the fans and the team management for their support but also said that he was proud of the boys for the character they showed throughout the tournament.

"Not the result we wanted but I am so proud of the character shown by the boys throughout the tournament. A disappointing end but we can hold our heads high. Thank you to all the fans, management & the support staff for your constant support. Folded hands @RCBTweets," Kohli wrote.
