Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly looking to sign former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as their new manager after sacking Erik ten Hag just a few days ago. The dismissal of Erik ten Hag happened just over a couple of months after his initial appointment earlier in the summer, and during this time, the 55-year-old Dutchman managed Bayer Leverkusen in just three matches, including two in Bundesliga.
Following the sudden departure of Erik ten Hag as Bayer Leverkusen manager, there are several candidates discussed by the club hierarchy to appoint his replacement, and the final decision is expected to happen by this weekend, as reported by Sky Sports Germany. The name of Ange Postecoglou, the 60-year-old Australian, is high up in the reckoning after he helped Tottenham Hotspur win their first major trophy in 17 years before being sacked by the club.
Ange Postecoglou has won trophies in Scotland and England during his managerial career
In the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 final, which was played at the Saint Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 1-0, thanks to a first half goal by Brennan Johnson. Apart from that, Ange Postecoglou also has experience of managing Celtic in Scotland, where he won the Scottish League twice before taking up the job at Tottenham Hotspur in England.
Also, Raul is one of the other top candidates to take over the Bayer Leverkusen job after his fellow countryman and current Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso won them the Bundesliga trophy as the invincibles in the 2023-24 season. It is understood that the German club is planning to present their new manager next week after players return from international duty from all over the world.
