Emiliano Martinez also known as Dibu Martinez, is the World Cup winning Argentina international goalkeeper who plays for the Premier League club Aston Villa. The 33-year-old joined Villa in the year 2020 and has been the pillar of the squad ever since. Martinez was ready to start a new chapter in his career as he was in tears following the last match of the previous season and waved goodbye to the Villa fans.
However, in the shocking turn of events, Emiliano Martinez is said to continue at Aston Villa as the Argentina goalkeeper did not receive a bid from his desired club Manchester United. According to reports, Dibu was heavily linked to the Red Devils and talks were progressing as Manchester United were keen on strengthening their goalkeeping department. However, Man United were reportedly not able to reach an agreement and Villa did not receive a bid from the Red Devils for Argentine goalkeeper despite the 32-year-old being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Martinez rejects bid from the Turkish champions Galatasaray
Manchester United officially confirmed the signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. They were linked to signing the 23-year-old before the talks for Martinez took place. The defending Super Lig Champions Galatasaray had offered a bid for Martinez to join the Turkish club. However, Martinez did not prefer a move to Istanbul as he wanted to continue to play at the top level and decided to remain at Aston Villa.
Aston Villa are happy to let the goalkeeper continue at the club and consider him to play a vital role this season despite being left out of the squad in the previous Premier League match. In the press match conference ahead of the match when asked about the news of Emi Martinez, the Head coach kept on repeating the name of their new goalkeeping signing Marco Bizot. It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper will be starting the upcoming matches for Aston Villa.
