In a shocking turn of events, former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged in regards to making an indecent image of a child. The Englishman, who is 43 years of age, got charged after investigation was done by the Nottinghamshire Police on the matter which came to light in February of this year following the recovery of a video file by the officers.
Notably, David Coote got sacked from his position as the referee in the Premier League by PGMOL after his derogatory comments on former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp last year. It had led to the Football Association (FA) imposing an eight-week suspension on him in August over the comments, while he got banned by the UEFA from refereeing in their competitions until June 30, 2026.
David Coote set to appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court on September 11
As far as his current case is concerned, it is understood that David Coote, who hails from Collingham in Nottinghamshire, will appear at the Nottingham Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 11 after he was charged last month, as reported by BBC Sport. Currently, he is out of prison on conditional bail, while the Nottinghamshire Police stated the charge on him in regards to making an incident image of a child is related to acts like downloading, saving, and sharing material.
With that, David Coote is in a lot of hot water with the authorities, and if proven guilty, he is expected to get severely punished, which could quite possibly end any glimmer of hope in regards to his professional football career as a referee. The character and livelihood of the Nottinghamshire man has already been severely damaged due to his derogatory comments on Jurgen Klopp, and it’s about to get worse in all likelihood.
