India will square off against Oman for the third spot at the Hisor Central Stadium, in the 2025 CAFA Nations Cup. Under Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the Blue Tigers started their campaign with a 2-1 victory against the hosts Tajikistan. Anwar Ali and Sandesh Jhingan stepped up and scored to help India kick off the campaign with a win. However, in the next game, India’s campaign got shaken as Iran hammered them by 3-0. With the crushing defeat, India required a stalemate or win against Afghanistan to qualify for the next round for the third spot.
Eventually in the last pool game, India succeeded in securing a stalemate against the Afghan team. With the draw result, India also kept their eyes on the contest between Iran and Tajikistan as the result of their match decided India’s fate in the tournament. Eventually, their match also concluded in a draw and Sandhu’s team got the knockout-round pass to clash against Oman.
India expected to finish the tournament on a positive note
India will strive to get the better of Oman and conclude the competition on a positive note. Oman have been unbeaten so far in the tournament while the Blue Tigers have looked shaky. Both teams last played against each other in the International Friendly match in March 2021, and the game ended in a draw.
Discussing their head-to-head records, both sides have played against each other in 10 games. Oman have an upper hand as they have bagged six wins. India have won only one game when they faced each other for the first time in 1994. Carlos Quiros, who is Oman's coach, holds an incredible record against India as holding the managerial position, he has won three games with 10 goals against the Blue Tigers. However, forgetting the records, India will focus on giving a tough time to the West Asian team.
