Kostas Tsimikas, a 29-year-old Greek international, who played as a full-back for the Premier League defending champions Liverpool, has now made a move to AS Roma. Notably, Tsimikas arrived at Anfield from Olympiacos in the summer of 2020 and has made 115 appearances for The Reds as on date. Later on, in 2023, Tsimikas signed a contract extension with Liverpool which keeps him until 2027.
The Greek international has struggled to find regular game time under their new manager Arne Slot and last featured for Liverpool in the final Premier League game of the season against Brighton. He is now set to embark on a new journey in Italy as Gian Piero Gasperini’s team AS Roma have completed the signing of the 29-year-old on a loan deal which lasts up to the end of this season. Liverpool were initially keen on finding a permanent deal for Tsimikas but AS Roma reportedly did not have the funds needed to sign him on a long term basis because of which both teams came to an agreement over a loan deal.
Tsimikas likely to be eighth Greek international to play for AS Roma
AS Roma have started the campaign on a positive note as they have won both of their league games before the September international break. They are also going to battle in the Europa League this term. Tsimikas has the opportunity to find permanent game time at AS Roma and develop his skills and performances under the management of Gasperini. He will be seen donning the jersey no.12 at the Serie A club.
Since the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, it was evident that Kerkez & Robertson were going to be the preferences for Liverpool ahead of Tsimikas this season. His arrival at Roma will improve their squad depth and help them create more chances with the quality that he brings on the table.
