South Africa has announced their preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Hugo Broos will be the Head Coach for the side. They will be hopeful of making an impact in the gloried stage of world football and they have been put into a fine group. They have been included in Group A and the group consists of Mexico, South Korea and Czechia.
It will not be an easy task but they will be hungry for success as they have been looking good in recent times. South Africa’s key players for the tournament include Oswin Appollis and Ime Akon. These will be two of the core players that they would be reliant on in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
They did not qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and that would have been disappointing for the side. In the Qualifiers, they were placed in Group G and only the top team in the group went through. The most heartbreaking factor would be that they missed out on qualification by just a whisker. Both Ghana and South Africa were tied on 13 points with similar results for both sides.
But the definitive point was when Ghana had just one goal more than South Africa and that one goal cost them a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Now, they have the opportunity to make amends for their elimination in the Qualifiers and they will be hoping to make their fans and nation proud in North America.
