To conduct the remainder of IPL 2021 is one of the biggest challenges for BCCI at present. Though the mega event has been shifted to UAE considering the COVID-19 situation in India, the availability of foreign players has been a big headache for the Indian cricket body.
While ECB managing director Ashley Giles has stated that its centrally contracted players won't be a part of the remainder of the mega event in UAE, the boards of other countries are also contemplating the same issue. Amid all, a recent statement from a BCCI official must have put the foreign players in worry.
Pay cut for foreign players who miss phase 2 of IPL 2021 in UAE
During a recent interaction with media, the official from the apex cricket governing body of India made it clear that the foreign players who will skip the remainder of the mega event in UAE will face a cut in their salaries. According to him, the players doing so will only be paid for the phase 1 of IPL 2021 that was conducted in India.
Notably, the tournament, which got postponed midway in India on May 4 after several COVID cases were found in its bio-bubble, is all set to kick off in UAE during the September-October window for its remaining 31 matches. However, the international commitments will see many foreign players missing the latter half of the 14th edition of the league. This, in turn, will see them losing money from their respective contract with the IPL franchises.

“Yes it is correct, in case they (foreign players) can’t make it to UAE for IPL, franchises will be within their right to cut their salaries and pay them only on a pro-rata basis," confirmed the BCCI official as quoted by Inside Sport.
List of foreign players who can suffer huge pay cut
The players who are more likely to miss the remaining season are mainly from England, Australia and New Zealand. The big buy from these teams are Ben Stokes, Jhye Richardson, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Pat Cummins.
