The 2022 French Open draw has brought fans some exciting matchups as Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are drawn into the top quarter. As a result, the stalwarts could face each other in the last eight. Djokovic will start his tournament against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, while Rafa will take on Jordan Thompson of Australia.

But this extremely unbalanced top half of the men’s draw has another spanner in the works as it also includes another favourite, Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz. The 19-year-old has defeated Nadal and Djokovic in consecutive matches to win the Madrid Open recently. He could face the third-seeded Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals. Hence Djokovic or Nadal could be lined up to face Alcaraz or Zverev in the semi-finals.

Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the 10th seed, will face the French wild card entrant Manuel Guinard in the first round and could meet Alcaraz in the fourth round. The bottom half of the men’s draw is led by Daniil Medvedev, Stefonas Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev. Similarly, Dan Evans will face Francisco Cerundolo in round one.

In the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek enters as the favourite to win the French Open. The Polish superstar was the Roland Garros champion in 2020 and has come to Paris with a 28-match winning streak and will face a qualifier in the opening round. Swiatek could play against former French Open winners Simona Halep or Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth round.

Emma Raducanu will make her French Open debut as the 12-seed and is given a decent draw as she recovers from her recent back injury. She will open her tournament against a qualifier and after that could face either Aliaksandra Sasnovich or Xinyu Wang.

But one of the most interesting fixtures from both the draws is between the unseeded Naomi Osaka and the 27th seeded Amanda Anisimova. The American is a former prodigy who reached the 2019 French Open semi-final aged 17 and took down Osaka in the third round of the Australian Open this year. Whereas the Japanese tennis player comes to Paris after recovering from an Achilles injury that sidelined her in Rome.
