Mumbai Indians were quiet in the first half of the first day of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Everyone was wondering why are they not buying anyone. The Mumbai-based franchise was trying to get back their ex-players like Trent Boult and Quinton de Kock but backed out looking at the prices going higher. But as soon as Ishan Kishan's name popped up, Mumbai Indians team management woke up and took the auction hall by a storm as they bid aggressively for the wicketkeeper batter.

They opened the bid and continued to till the end. The price kept soaring up with other franchises also showing big interest in the Jharkhand cricketer. However, Mumbai did not lose patience and stuck to raising the paddle until they got Ishan Kishan back with them. In the process, the price crossed 15 Cores. In the end, Kishan was bought back by MI for a whopping 15.25 CR. With this, Kishan became the most expensive Indian player in the IPL after Yuvraj Singh.

With Kishan ending up as the most expensive player so far in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Twitter users went crazy. While some welcomed back Kishan to MI Paltan, some pointed out the reason for Mumbai going all guns blazing for Ishan. "Mumbai Indians has not invested on Ishan Kishan, they have invested in Future captain for Mumbai Indians," pointed out a user. He may be right as this is the first time MI have spent more than 10 Cr on a player in the auction.
