Former India captain MS Dhoni turned 40 today and understandably social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have exploded with wishes for India's World Cup winning leader. However, things took an ugly turn when former India batsman Gautam Gambhir decided to update his cover picture on Facebook. While Gambhir celebrating his half-century in a muddy Indian jersey from 2 April 2011- the final of 2011 World Cup, where he top scored with 97 - is part of India's cricketing folklore, the timing of his social media update which coincided with Dhoni's birthday, who finished that match for the team and remained unbeaten on 91, is being questioned by some fans.

Despite Gambhir being the top-scorer for his team, his innings coming at a crucial rebuilding phase after India were reduced to 0/1 and later 31/2 - his knock remains underrated and undercelebrated as Dhoni's more fluent and attacking 91 served with an icing on the cake in the form of a six to seal the match as well as Sachin Tendulkar taking a lap of honour remained the prominent talking points from the epic final. However, Gambhir has gone on record saying that every run counted towards India's win and it wasn't MSD's efforts alone.

However, the timing of his cover page update on Facebook has raised eyebrows and attracted criticism from the fans. While some called him "childish", others termed the left-handed batter "jealous."
