Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh won a bronze medal in Men’s 109 plus kg category on Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Gurdeep lifted a total weight of 390kg in the final as he clinched India’s 10th weightlifting medal at the ongoing edition of the Games. With that win, Gurdeep extended India’s overall medal tally up to 17.

Gurdeep did not have the best start as he failed to lift the 167kg in his first attempt in ‘Snatch,’ while he successfully lifted the bar in his second. He was joint-third after the completion of all ‘Snatch’ attempts with Pakistan’s Muhammad Butt leading with the highest lift of 173kg. In ‘Clean & Jerk’ category, Gurdeep made a successful start with 207kg lift, which eventually proved enough to bag a medal for India.

Pakistan’s weightlifter Muhammed Butt registered Commonwealth national record with a 225kg attempt first up, thus confirming bronze medal for Gurdeep. Earlier, Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli won gold medal in weightlifting for India at CWG 2022.

Indian weightlifters Sanket Sargar, Bindyarani Devi and Vikas Thakur won silver, whereas, Gururaja Poojary, Lovepreet Singh and Gurudeep Singh have bagged bronze medal in weightlifting. We bring you all the available details regarding the bronze medallist weightlifter Gurdeep Singh.
