Guenther Steiner, the Haas F1 boss, has revealed former Ferrari Simone Resta’s plan for this season and the forthcoming one. Steiner acknowledged that the move to transfer their Head of Chassis Engineering Resta to customer team Haas comes as a drastic move from a giant to a low-budget outfit.
He said that Resta is still getting to know the mode of operation in the American team. He further gave an update stating that Resta has almost completed his work on the 2021 car and will shift to working on 2022 once he finishes the project.

“He’s (Resta) spent the first few weeks getting himself accustomed to what we are doing. He has got involved in this year’s car," Steiner was quoted as saying. He further revealed that 80% of Resta's time is focused on 2022 and by the end of February he will more or less completely focus on the 2022 season.
The 55-year-old Italian motorsport engineer also shared his thoughts on the real ambitions their team has set for themselves. Notably, they had a disappointing run in 2020 and he views the signing of Rest from Ferrari and what he is capable of as a major positive for the side.
Steiner admitted that they are preparing to be better but is not aware of what the reality would be. Acknowledging the season as a tough one, he said he is confident that they would be able to manage it. "That’s one of the reasons we took two rookie drivers – this is a transition year and we plan for better days in 2022," he said.
He stated that they are prepping up for a tough year ahead suggesting that they will work hard to get the best results but highlighted the need to be realistic about their dream and not fancy their chances of a complete turnaround.
