Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh is all set to be part of the Rajya Sabha soon as reports suggest the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is looking to send him to the upper house in the biennial elections from Punjab. AAP won the recent Punjab elections, with Bhagwant Mann taking the oath as the Chief Minister of the state.

Five Rajya Sabha seats remain vacant and biennial elections will be conducted for selecting the candidates for those seats on March 31. According to the sources, one of those seats could be given to the former World Cup winner.

CM Mann after being elected as the CM of Punjab had promised to set up a Sports University in Jalandhar. Consequently,  there have been reports that the AAP government could give a crucial role to Harbhajan Singh.

Harbhajan Singh was one of the first celebrities to hail Bhagwant Mann after registering a historic win in the Punjab elections. He also dubbed the new Punjab Chief Minister as his friend while also congratulating AAP.

“Congratulations to @AamAadmiParty and My friend #BhagwantMann on Becoming our New Chief minister .. great to hear that he will be taking oath as the new CM in Bhagat Singh’s village Khatkarkalan…what a picture…this is a proud moment for Mata Ji,” his tweet read.

Notably, the veteran bowler retired from all forms of cricket in December 2021. He wasn’t part of the international set-up for a long time but he has been an active player in the Indian Premier League. He played for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in his last few seasons. He was part of the title-winning side with MS Dhoni’s CSK. Whereas he didn’t play in a lot of games for KKR. Since then he has been an active voice on Twitter and hasn’t shied away from expressing his thoughts and opinions.
